Happy ‘Foreclosure’ Holidays!

Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac announced today that they will suspend foreclosure-based evictions during the Christmas and New Year's holiday season this year, from Dec. 19 to Jan. 3. In a press release, Fannie Mae president and CEO Michael Williams said that the spirit of Christmas was integral to its decision. "No family should have to face the prospect of being evicted during the holiday season," Williams said. Also, Citigroup announced today that it will suspend foreclosure sales and distribution of foreclosure notices between Dec. 18 and Jan.17, giving its customers a break for the holidays. For 30 days, the bank will not hassle its distressed customers with first mortgage loans held by Citigroup and CitiFinancial North…but, come Jan 3rd (or 17th for Citi), all bets are off!
